I was born in the Soviet Union and moved to Canada in 1992. I was not able to bring many things with me to a new country; the only object I took with me were two gold earrings that I bought in 1987 and never took off since that time.

Gold jewelry was very expensive to own in the Soviet Union, and I had to save four monthly salaries to buy them. I have been wearing those earrings for thirty years and, unfortunately, I lost one of them and couldn’t find it anywhere. This precious object always brings me memories of my home, the place where I was born and grew up; so, I decided to continue wearing only one that I had left. Memories cannot be taken away from you, and they are precious.

You can see that I didn’t take my earring even to make a photograph as I am afraid to lose it and the memories attached to it.
